Zones: 5-8. Mikawa yatsubusa is a small dwarf maturing to about 4 feet in ten years (depending on your location, soil and growing conditions). Leaves are uniquely shingled- one on top of the other- naturally forming a layered bonsai look. Spring color is yellow green, summer brings medium green followed by an intense riot of fall color. The photo, taken in October, is exactly what we see! Our trees grow in filtered shade, just as they do in the Japanese forests. They are happy with small doses of fish fertilizer in early spring, moderate water all year long, slightly acid soil with good drainage. Mikawa while very showy, is easy to grow in the ground or in a container. Shipping size 12-15 inches, just starting to branch.
