Delosperma nubigenum, called Ice Plant due to the icy look of its tiny foliage. This ice plant has tiny succulent evergreen leaves which form a low thick mat covered with starry yellow flowers in late spring. Attracts butterflies. Needs well drained soil and full sun and very little water. Excellent in containers or a sunny rock garden or wall, between pavers and even as a substitute lawn. Delosperma grows in high mountain elevations to low coastal locations always in quick draining soil with added grit or rock. In highest elevations give afternoon shade. May turn red or bronzy in winter.
